He first felt discomfort on July 23 and was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day with what was referred to as a bruised knee. The decision was made to go ahead with surgery after seeking a second opinion Thursday from Dr. Neal ElAttrache. The procedure will be performed by Mariners medical director Dr. E. Edward Khalfayan.
